Scuderia Car Parts have used their expertise to help build the Maserati 420 Super Monoposto; the flagship car being used for the inaugural Best of Italy Festival 2016. The festival will take place from 16-18 September in the heart of the stunning Italian region of Emilia-Romagna and will celebrate some magnificent Italian engineering in the form of 150+ supercars, motorbikes and bicycles.

The festival celebrates all things Italian, with speed and engineering featuring heavily, but local food specialities, curated by celebrity chef Aldo Zilli and breath-taking Italian countryside will also be a large part of the experience.

The car at the centre of it all is the very special Maserati 420 Super Monoposto. This one-of-a-kind racer was inspired by the Maserati 320S, designed by Giugiaro and built by Italian coach builders, Candini around 15 years ago.

Shaped and styled in a very similar way to the 320S and finished in Eldorado Bianco and blue racing stripes, the 420SM is a fully prepared race car and will be driven during the Best of Italy Festival, taking on the 26km closed-road hill climb between Castell’Arquato and Morfasso in Northern Italy. TV presenter, fashion model and self-confessed petrol-head, Jodie Kidd will be behind the wheel for the event.

The 420SM has been designed and built in the UK with help from Italian sponsors O.Z (wheels), Pirelli (tyres), Sparco (equipment) and Skorpion Engineering (overall design). Queen’s Award winning Scuderia Car Parts were brought in to help provide the very best engine and suspension components in light of their experience providing performance parts for all types of road and track cars.

Scuderia have provided an induction kit, ECU re-map and suspension kit for this one-off Maserati.

The BMC induction kit is made of high performance materials that allow an increased air flow alongside more efficient filtration, guaranteeing containment of all impurities from as small as seven microns (compared to OEM’s 10 microns). This allows for much greater air flow while amazingly improving filtration too.

With the ECU map, Scuderia change the parameters of the ECU to maximise possible performance from the engine by optimising the car for performance instead of homologation considerations. In doing so, we achieved an additional 35bhp and 21Lb.ft torque for the Maserati 420SM!

Scuderia also fitted the ‘KW Variant 3’ coilover kit to the Super Monoposto. This kit is essentially three-way adjustable for default ride height, compression and rebound. Put simply, the KW Variant 3 coilover kit is the final word on customising the handling of the car, allowing the driver to find the perfect balance between ride comfort and responsive handling. With 16 separate rebound settings and 12 compression settings, it also gives you the ability to adjust it whenever you please for trackdays etc.
