An American-style grand tourer, the Continental GT was the first fruits of the company’s takeover by Volkswagen, and the first car out of the Crewe factory to be built using mass-production methods. A six-litre, W12 engine was fitted across the range, but in the case of the GT Speed and Supersports variants, it was tweaked to produce as much as 621bhp, giving it over 15 per cent more power than the ‘base’ GT and GTC cars. The W12 engines were joined by a V8 from 2012, and from around this time, all models were also designed to be capable of running on bioethanol as well as regular petrol.
