SPOFEC, the Rolls-Royce division of prestigious German tuning house Novitec, have refined the already superlative luxury convertible, the Rolls-Royce Dawn. The conversion programme, which is only available in the UK from Exclusive Distributors Scuderia Car Parts, includes exclusive design in the form of new carbon aero styling and 22-inch tailor-made wheels, in combination with a lowered ride height, carbon-ceramic brakes and a significant power boost.
Aero and Cosmetic Upgrades
The new carbon bodywork components from SPOFEC blend harmoniously with the lines of the Dawn and captivate with their flawless fit and visible quality.
Available for the convertible are a new front bumper that adds even more elegance to the front fascia, a set of side panels that accentuate the sporty stance, a rear bumper that adds subtle dynamism and a rear spoiler lip that adds the finishing touch.
All these components were aerodynamically tested in the wind tunnel and come in carbon or visible carbon, with customer requests accepted for painting.
The new Novitec front bumper totally replaces the factory component and helps minimize lift on the front axle at high speeds for further optimized handling stability, whereas the side panels have stylized air vents at the front wheel wells. The rear bumper is also designed as a complete replacement component and fits the Novitec sports exhaust system, and the spoiler lip adds a more athletic look at the rear.
Performance
The performance gains of the SPOFEC conversion include an approximate additional 120 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque, which will make a serious difference to the 155mph limited vehicle. The power output figures now read: 505 kW / 686 hp and 980 Nm of torque and 0-100kmph in 4.6 seconds, which shaves off 0.3 seconds off factory models.
This extra power is generated by a Plug & Play processor-controlled device that is connected to the engine, plus the addition of a light-weight sports exhaust. The stainless steel exhaust weights about 5kg less than stock and creates a sportier exhaust note without it being obtrusive. The variant with exhaust flap control offers an electronic sound management that can make the V-12 sound either markedly discreet or sporty and powerful as desired.
These improvements combine to give a more superior power delivery which is transferred to the road and managed superbly by the new wheel and tyre set and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Wheels
The SPOFEC SP1 wheels have proved ever popular for Rolls-Royce Ghost and Wraith customers, and now owners of the Dawn can order these tailor-made 22-inch, king-sized wheels. These wheels impress with their unusual styling that features ten pairs of spokes offset in space that creates that distinctive sporty-elegant look.
The wheels of size 9Jx22 and high-performance tyres of size 265/35 ZR22 at the front, combined with 10.5Jx22 rims and size 295/30 ZR22 tyres at the rear make full use of the available space under the wheel arches of the Dawn. They are available with a silver, matte black, titanium or mirror polished black finish that particularly highlights the wheel design, and can also be painted in vehicle or any desired contrasting colour.
Extras
With new wheels, come new carbon-ceramic high-performance brakes. The vented discs of sizes 405mm x 30mm and 395mm x 38mm provide outstanding stopping power and additionally save about 38kg in weight as they are manufactured from hi-tech material compounds. This pronounced reduction in unsprung masses gives the open-top Rolls-Royce even more dynamic handling.
The SPOFEC suspension module is also specifically tailored to the low-profile tyres provided with the SP1 wheels. The modified controls for the air suspension of the Rolls-Royce Dawn lower the ride height by about 40mm up to a speed of 140 km/h, but the car reverts back to its stock ride height at higher speeds.
