How expensive are Land Rover parts?

Share on:

Given the luxury positioning of the brand, when you choose to drive a Land Rover or Range Rover, you probably expect that the cost of Land Rover parts or aftermarket extras would be quite high. But these are vehicles designed to withstand being driven over some of the most exacting terrain a car will ever encounter.

So from the very beginning, quality Land Rover parts are built to operate effectively in such tough conditions, with many being made specifically from stronger materials than on a standard road-going car.

And their extra ground clearance over a standard saloon or hatchback makes it easier for you to stay away from minor hazards and obstructions which could spell trouble for a less well-protected vehicle.

In this article, we will show sample Land Rover or Range Rover part prices, be it for routine maintenance, body and interior repairs, or turning your vehicle into something a bit more distinctive.

How Often Does A Land Rover Need To Be Serviced?

Like every other vehicle you drive, you’ll find a Land Rover or Range Rover more reliable when you get it serviced according to the manufacturer’s schedule.

For a pre-2007 Defender, the following is a good guide to how regularly certain routine maintenance jobs should be performed:

Every 6,000 miles: Replace engine oil and fit new oil filter; check clutch and power steering fluid levels; check condition of brake drums, pads and discs; check handbrake operation and lubricate linkage; check locks and lubricate if needed; check oil levels in main and transfer gearbox, front and back axles; check hoses on cooling and heater system for cracks; check steering and suspension operation; verify all these in a road test.

Every 12,000 miles: All the previously listed checks, plus: clean fuel sedimenter; fit new fuel filter and air cleaner elements; check radiator and intercooler for obstructions and clear if needed; check exhaust system; check fuel tank and towing bracket are secure; check operation and direction of headlights and other light units; check front wheel alignment; change main gearbox oil.

Brake fluid generally needs to be replaced every 18 months/18,000 miles, while transfer gearbox oil should be drained and replaced every two years or 24,000 miles. This is also the time to get your engine coolant checked and topped up or replaced.

All of these tasks can be done by your friendly Land Rover specialist, who can also fit any original replacement parts for Land Rover Discovery that you might choose from the wide range available to enhance your Disco’s capabilities or comfort.

What Can I Expect To Pay For Parts To Service A Land Rover?

As we explained above, the price of Land Rover parts and the frequency with which many need to be replaced varies – sometimes greatly.

You should always be guided on this by the manufacturer’s original service schedule, but as so many Land Rovers are used for different purposes, and massively different amounts, you might need to adjust your replacement schedules accordingly.

So it will pay you to keep a close eye on prices for commonly replaced Land Rover Defender parts, such as brake discs, which at the time of writing retail for £75-£90. That’s one way in which the internet has become such a powerful tool – you can quickly search for the parts you know you’re going to need at your next service, and get a clear indication of what you should expect to pay.

One part whose lifespan is almost impossible to predict is your Land Rover or Range Rover’s exhaust system. It used to be said that most such systems had a working life of about 18 months, or 20,000 miles. But today, thanks to superior metals technology, you can often get quite a bit longer than this out of your exhaust.

That said, replacing the pipe and back exhaust box of a Land Rover, or getting a new Range Rover rear exhaust isn’t a huge job. It will currently cost about £430, and for this you can be assured that the replacement you get is identical to your life-expired set-up. So it will be well worth buying from a specialist.

Also critical to the performance of your vehicle is getting the timing chain replaced when due. Failure can lead to some of the most disastrous consequences for many other of your Land Rover parts or your Range Rover’s engine, so getting it replaced according to the servicing schedule will be a case of spending a little in the short term to save much more money in the long-term.

A less routine but still common replacement project on a Defender is to fit a new fuel tank. While they are well protected from the bumps and knocks you might encounter on a rutted off-road track, their siting on the bottom of the vehicle can make them vulnerable to damage. But fitting a new fuel tank for a Discovery 4 3.0 Diesel, for example, is well within the scope of any Land Rover specialist, and can be done in just a few hours.

How Much Do Range Rover Accessories Cost?

The question of the cost of Range Rover parts really depends on how far you want to go in personalising your vehicle, or adding to its already impressive list of capabilities.

While they already boast impressive load-carrying capacity, we’ve seen lots of owners who find it useful to extend this, and one of the most popular ways of doing so is by fitting a new roof rack.

Quite often, once a Land Rover or Range Rover has seen many years of regular use, its comfort starts to get a little compromised. This is typical of pretty much all makes of car, but once you have enjoyed the premium experience of travelling in a Range Rover – whether as a driver or a passenger – you quickly notice when wear is starting to take its toll.

The good news is that new Range Rover seats are readily available to upgrade your travelling experience and give you the feeling of a much newer car. And given that Range Rover owners are known for carrying anything and everything in their vehicles, and using the seats as luggage space, that’s sure to be an appealing prospect for any of your human cargo!

Because they are so popular for off-road use, many Range Rover parts can get damaged accidentally, yet you don’t need to let any such scars show any longer than is necessary. That goes for internal parts, and the most conspicuous external ones, such as a Range Rover Sport 2005-09 rear bumper, which at the time of writing costs from £494*.
