Overview

Name your car after a powerful wind, and customers have the right to expect it to be able to go like one. But that was never going to be an issue with the Huracan when Lamborghini put it on sale in early-2014. Its 5.2-litre engine, inherited from the Gallardo but combining two fuel injection systems, gave out a massive 602bhp, enough to catapult it to 60mph from zero in a mere 2.5 seconds - the kind of figures to make you forget that you're sat in a car that, underneath, shares a lot of bits with an Audi, even if those parts do come from an R8. Electronic all-wheel drive gets the power through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, whose characteristics vary according to the driving style you're using. The computer systems also choose one of three engine or gearbox control modes, using the same parameters.

Inside, the similarities with an Audi are most apparent, particularly as the Huracan shares the 'virtual cockpit' information display developed by the German company. "Fast, loud, sharp - and about as impactful as it's possible for anything on four wheels to be" was Autocar's succinct summary of its findings after driving the Huracan, although traces of understeer when the car started losing its grip took the edge off slightly. And it summed up the attractions of the Huracan against a wealth of new and longer-standing supercar pretenders saying "supercardom doesn't offer another ownership experience quite like that of a Lamborghini. And the Huracan [is] right up there with the very best Lamborghinis of all time."
