How McLaren Radiators Function in a Mid-Engine Layout

On the M840T 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the cooling system must manage the sustained heat loads generated during track use, where coolant temperatures are maintained within a tight operating window by the ECU's fan and thermostat management. The Artura adds a dedicated cooling circuit for the battery and electric motor that runs a separate heat exchanger alongside the combustion engine radiator, making thermal system architecture more complex.

Inspection and Maintenance of McLaren Radiators

McLaren's side-mounted radiators are exposed to road debris through the intake apertures, and stone or debris impact is the most common cause of radiator core damage. Inspect the core face regularly for impact damage and blockage from accumulated road debris, which will reduce airflow and cooling capacity. Check all coolant hose connections and the radiator filler neck for signs of seepage, which in the engine bay heat conditions of a mid-engine car can result in coolant loss that is not immediately obvious from the driver's seat.
