EVO magazine called this the “great performance car” of 2013, the year it was released. It had big shoes to fill too, but went about its business by looking lower, wider and more aggressive, and it toted a massive rear wing to boot. This car is a pure racer, down to the carbon fibre sports bucket seats which force you to adopt a race position. Behind the driver sits a 3.8-litre flat-six cylinder engine, powering the rear wheels only, and topping out at 9,000rpm, producing 482bhp in the process. Or as Porsche preferred to express it, 125bhp per litre, an exceptional figure for a road-going car. All this resulted in the fastest production Porsche of its day - even faster than the old Carrera GT. The active rear-wheel steering sends the back wheels in either the same or the opposite direction to the front wheels, depending on the car’s speed, to improve agility and stability. Shorter gear ratios also meant the car could reach - and sustain - its maximum speed in top (seventh) gear.
