AMG’s reputation for transforming the performance of otherwise run-of-the-mill Mercedes models - together with its association with five-time World F1 champion Lewis Hamilton - have brought it extraordinary success. Indeed, those figures prompted Autocar testers to note: “You have to question how much more power a four-door performance car could ever sensibly need”. And even then, they were impressed that, despite the car’s size, its ride was notably level and controlled, on a chassis which is “adapted almost beyond recognition” from the original AMG GT.
